New McDonalds Restaurant, Totton

Project Description
A new McDonalds restaurant is to be built. Practical Ecology Ltd was commissioned by Planware to produce a Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP).

Project Challenges
The initial consultation response from Natural England restricted work outside of the winter to prevent disturbance of wintering birds in four European designated sites directly adjacent to the proposed development.  Practical Ecology worked in close consultation with Natural England in order to facilitate a works programme that gave the developer the opportunity to work throughout the winter season.  This was despite earlier advice from Natural England that no works would be undertaken until the Spring due to restrictions concerning the rare birds on the European designated sites adjacent to the development. Practical Ecology were then able to develop a pragmatic Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) to include measures such as noise attenuation and dust suppression which was then approved by Natural England and the local planning authority to allow the works to proceed.
