Trimble GPS Plotting System
Hayden's use Trimble Field Computers with GPS to collect
data on Site Visits. The GeoXT allows Haydens to collect
all the required information and accurately plot the position
of individual trees, groups of trees, Hedges and others
important features in one movement.
Topographical surveys and Ordnance Survey Base Plans can be loaded onto the Trimble and used as a background map during the plotting phase.
Specialist Computer Aided Design Software (click to see more)
Haydens uses field leading software to produce comprehensive and detailed drawings and studies. Experienced CAD Operators produce plans using AutoCAD and can provide detailed Shadow Analysis where shading issues are perceived on development sites. These technology's allow Haydens to produce professional packages which are considered to be amongst the best in our field of work.
Hayden's has invested in the most up to date technology to allow the accurate assessment of tree decay without causing undue damage to the tree in the process.
Picus Sonic Tomograph
The Picus uses a series of sensors positioned at equidistance around the tree to both send and receive sound waves generated by the tapping of the sensors with a hammer. Once all the sensors have been tapped the software generates a tomograph depicting the condition of the wood as a series of colours dependant on the speed of the sound waves between the sensors.
More information can be found on thePicuspage within this section.
Technology - Picus Sonic Tomograph
We use digital calipers to acurately measure the shape of the tree producing cross sections which match the shape of the tree allowing the internal projection to be matched to the external features of the tree.
Technology - AutoCAD
At Haydens Arboricultural Consultants we believe that the first impression given by your drawings can often set the tone for further discussion and progress of any planning application which is why we have a dedicated drawing department who produce clear, accurate and professional drawings.
Our team of technicians are able to service all the requirements of developers, architects, planners, and designers, whatever the complexity of the drawing
We utilise the most up to date CAD software which allows for the rapid turn-around of material, enabling the prompt assessment of implications of any revisions or amendments during the evolution of a project. The client is able to dictate the layout of the drawings using project logos, layers and hatches, allowing you to use our drawings within your project literature without compromising your requirements.

Technology - Arbor-Shadow
Hayden's uses Arbor-Shadow to provide detailed Shadow Analysis
where shading issues are perceived on development sites.
The programme has the ability to generate the shadow cast by a tree at any time on any day in the year. This information can then be represented as a image showing where would be cast and in table form.
Hayden's follow the guidelines set out in the British Standard BS8206-2:1992 Lighting for Buildings, Paragraph 5.3 Sunlight Duration, to assess whether the particular project is compliant
The information generated by Arbor-Shadow is combined with data on Total Probable Sunlight Hours to produce a Percentage of Probable Sunlight which must meet minimum levels for summer and winter.
Technology - Google SketchUP
Hayden's uses Google SketchUP when three dimensional models show more clearly the relationship between trees and existing or proposed structures.
The programme has the ability to generate both still images and animations. Somes examples stills generated from 3D models are shown below and an example of an animation is shown on the right.
